Our most important event is the annual Frankfurt Spring Ball, which always takes place on the first non-Easter Saturday in the second half of April.
In 2010 it was on 17 April - same venue as the last two years (Volkshaus Enkheim). Next year it will be on 16 April 2011, one week before Easter (which is very late!)
The Ball has its own page
Due to popular demand there will be a special afternoon on Sunday, 3 October 2010. Anselm will teach Highland dancing (Scottish solo dances). We shall meet from 15pm to 19pm in the »Tagungsraum E3« of the Haus der Jugend (Frankfurt youth hostel) and work on simple steps and dances. No prior knowledge is required, but a certain familiarity with Scottish country dancing would be a definite asset. The event is free (we may put up a piggy bank); please provide your own refreshments.
See also the event page (also to register online).
On 26 October, we will again be offering an »open dance evening« under the auspices of the Frankfurt Intercultural Weeks. The motto is Scottish Dancing for Everyone — Lots of Fun with Jigs and Reels. The exact announcement in the event programme is something like
Scotland — not just whisky, kilts, and sheep in the rain, but also music that goes to your legs. Come with a partner or without, to get to know simple Scottish couple and group dances under expert instruction. Please bring sneakers or gymnastics shoes that are suitable for a school gymnasim!
The event takes place as part of our usual Tuesday dance nights, i.e., from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. in the gymnasium of the IGS Herder and is free.
Every year, the Frankfurt Intercultural Weeks finish with a big party, and we have again been invited to be part of the entertainment. It will take place in the Ravensteinzentrum, Frankfurter Turnvereins 1860, Pfingstweidstraße 7, 60316 Frankfurt. Details will follow here as soon as we know them.
Our traditional non-dancing afternoon for dancers, friends and families (without dancing!) will be on Sunday, 28 November 2010, starting 3 p.m. in the community centre St. Dionysius ("Gemeindehaus der Katholischen Kirchengemeinde St. Dionysius") in Frankfurt-Sindlingen, Huthmacherstr. 21. Details (how to find it etc.) will follow.
During the school holidays in Hesse we do not dance but occasionally meet for »alternative Tuesdays« (games, beer garden, etc.)
