Where to find us

We meet weekly (except during the Hessian school holidays) on Tuesday evenings from 7pm to 10pm in the gymnasium of the Herderschule, Wittelsbacherallee 6-12, in Frankfurt. This is near the Zoo and easily reached by public transport:

By tramway
Line 14 to »Waldschmidtstrasse«, which is right in front of the school
By subway
Lines U6 or U7 to »Zoo« station. Follow the »paws« in the pavement and ascend the stairs (or escalator) to the »Zoo-Gesellschaftshaus«. Follow »Thüringer Strasse« - keeping the zoo always on your right - around a bend to the right and then veer left into »Wittelsbacherallee«. The school is visible from there already.
By suburban rail (»S-Bahn«)
Any line to station »Ostendstrasse«, or - more conveniently - to station »Konstablerwache«, change to subway line U6 or U7 and continue as above.

You can of course come by car, but parking spaces may be scarce due to events at the »Zoo-Gesellschaftshaus« or the school. Usually there are spaces available in »Waldschmidtstrasse« or the far end of »Thüringer Strasse« (near the zoo wall). If all else fails, there are multi-storey car parks near the Mousonturm (in »Waldschmidtstrasse«) or right at the intersection of »Waldschmidtstrasse« and »Wittelsbacherallee«.

Here is a partial map of Frankfurt showing the Herderschule (thanks to Google Maps).

We usually start at 7pm with a warm-up and instruction for beginners and/or people wanting to improve their technique. This goes on until about 8.15pm and changes into a »general« class with less instruction and more emphasis on dancing together. Beginners are encouraged to take part in this, but the more advanced dancers will usually be able to dance among themselves for several dances per night. There is a break at around 9pm, and dancing finishes at approximately 9.45pm in order to give us time to change. Afterwards many of us go for a meal or drinks or to an ice-cream parlour, and beginners and guests are of course welcome to join us there.

If you come for the first time, please bring soft-soled gymnastics shoes or ballet pumps (available from sports shops for around EUR 15-20; get leather-soled ones in preference to ones with plastic soles, and ask us if you're in any doubt). In a pinch, indoor training shoes (school regulations!) will do for the first few sessions. Wear loose-fitting, comfortable clothing. Many ladies prefer skirts. For the gentlemen, kilts are nice but not mandatory. Scottish country dancing may be somewhat strenuous.

Guests and beginners are always welcome but we would appreciate a short note to info@frankfurt-scd-club.org in order to prepare the evening's programme accordingly. Ideal times to start are after our annual ball in early May and after the Hessian summer holidays. Of course it is always possible to check us out!
