Belhaven is a long demonstration medley by Hugh Foss which is among the most demanding dances in the repertoire. We’re pleased to offer, in cooperation with Andrew Timmins, a workshop for very advanced dancers which is all about this dance – a possibly unique opportunity to explore the limits of Scottish country dancing and one’s own dancing abilities, under experienced and charismatic direction and with a lot of fun!

IMPORTANT: The workshop was originally advertised for May 25 but had to be rescheduled.

Belhaven consists of 128 bars of reel, 96 bars of strathspey, and 136 bars of jig. You will need to be proficient with steps (including simple highland setting steps) and formations and must be confident of keeping on track even if the whole set is moving simultaneously. Other indispensable prerequisites include a good physical condition and the ability to concentrate for a long time, as we will probably require around 6 hours to cover the whole dance. (Of course there will be suitable breaks to have a rest.)

Attendance is limited to 24 persons (in order of registration). Admission is €22 for RSCDS members, €25 for others. Water, fruit and biscuits/cake will be provided. Please bring your own lunch; there are shopping opportunities in the area.
